the chakra is connected to the functions of speech and the ability to communicate. the throat chakra is called vissudha chakra – vissudha means to purify. it challenges us to purify the content and purpose of our words – the relationship between controlled thoughts and controlled speech. we are asked to consider the power of words – are they destructive or are they used to unite – to heal and to reconcile. this chakra is ultimately connected with the power of sound – a sound is vibration – vibration creates form. the normal range of hearing extends between 20 and 30 hertz. if our hearing were to extend beyond these parameters – our perception to reality would be dramatically expanded. the vissudha chakra represents the quality of hearing – the refined sense of inner hearing. the chakra is attributed to blue – the color of the sky – the sky symbolises that which is ever present – omnipresent and beyond our grasp. the limitless expanse of the sky reminds us that the chakra symbolises a conscious free form of matter.
